- Igbo is a tonal language. There are two tones : a high tone and a low tone. High tones can be written with an acute accent (é) and low tones can be written with a grave accent (è). Every syllable will have one of these two tones
- In addition to tones, Igbo utilizes vowel harmony.
- Nouns remain fairly simple, and do not change based on gender, number, or case.
- Verbs are conjugated for tense and aspect, but not for person/number.
- Gerunds are formed with reduplication, which is an interesting feature of Igbo.
- Basic word order is Subject-Verb-Object.
