Family:  Turkic 
Status:  Official in Uzbekistan. Recognized minority language in Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan.
Script:  Latin, Cyrillic 
 
  • Uzbek is officially written in the alphabet, but writing in Cyrillic is still very common. Learners will have to also learn Cyrillic to read proficiently in Uzbek. 
  • Some aspects of the grammar will be simple. There are no genders, and no definite articles. 
  • Uzbek uses a Subject-Object-Verb word order, like other Turkic languages 
  • Also like other Turkic languages, Uzbek is an agglutinative language.
